DIVISION I NCAA DIRECTOR MICHELLE PERRY TO DELIVER SPORT MANAGEMENT LECTURE SEPT. 16 - US Fed News Service, Including US State News

MACOMB, Ill., Sept. 2 -- Western Illinois University issued the following news release:

Michelle Perry, director of the Division I NCAA Women's Basketball Championship, will visit the Western Illinois University Macomb campus later this month and deliver her lecture, 'There Will Always Be A Leaky Roof... An Inside Look at the Women's Final Four' at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16 in Horrabin Hall, room 59. Perry was a graduate student in the WIU Department of Kinesiology Sport Management Program in the early 1990s.

Perry has served as the director of the Division I National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Women's Basketball Championship since 2002. In that role, some of her key duties include: supervising, training and mentoring four members of the women's basketball staff; leading strategic initiatives to develop championship goals; and managing a $14.5 million budget. Also during her tenure as director, she developed and implemented the 'mock selection' program to provide transparency in the women's basketball selection, seeding and bracketing processes to the membership and media.

Prior to her current position, Perry served as the assistant commissioner for the Mountain West Conference, Colorado Springs (CO); assistant director of athletics at the University of Texas-San Antonio; and tournament manager for the 1998 NCAA Men's Final Four. She is a graduate of Monmouth College (Monmouth, IL), where she was a student athlete, playing women's basketball and softball.

Perry's lecture is sponsored by the Visiting Lecture Committee and the sport management program in Western Illinois University's Department of Kinesiology.
